How Sponsoring a Child can Change Your World

My family and I started sponsoring Boston through Ridge Point and the Jubilee Center over a year ago. Our communication with him has been scant, letters once or twice a year, but a few months ago I was able to travel to Zambia with Ridge Point to meet Boston and his family.  He is cared for by his grandparents; his parents have both passed away due to AIDs complications. They are active with their neighborhood church, and I was able to meet his pastor as well. Boston’s shy smile will forever be in my memory- it grew quite large when I showed him the pop rocks I brought him from Michigan (he had never seen such a thing!). It was special to be able to interact with him and get a small taste of his life and surroundings, albeit for such a short time.  Knowing that we are helping to make a big impact on a child so far away is quite something- it helps us to remember that we are all part of God’s family and we need to take care of each other. I urge anyone thinking about child sponsorship to do it! The financial burden is light, and it makes a huge difference for the at-risk kids in developing countries.

I had the opportunity to see Lisa interact with Boston while our team was in Zambia at the beginning of summer. It’s amazing what difference a meeting like that can make. Watching Boston receive the gifts that Lisa brought him was a special moment – it was a world changing moment. It changed Lisa’s world; Lisa’s world became a little smaller that day and Boston’s world got a little bigger that day.

On August 24 and 25 we will have the chance to begin a relationship like Lisa’s and Boston’s. It’s more than a chance to sponsor a child in Honduras or Zambia, it is a chance to change our world by caring For Every Child no matter where they live. That’s who we are – as Fearless Followers we are For Every Child. Make sure you join us August 24 or 25 at one of our three network churches to make sure you don’t miss out on changing the world for one of these kids as we set aside a day of child sponsorship, a day to be For Every Child.
