Sermon Title: Magnifying Glass and Mirror

Text:

Colossians 3:12

Message Notes:

Marriage is not a magnifying glass

Marriage is a mirror

Your marriage can reflect God

Deeper Dive:

  1. What’s the funniest thing you’ve ever fought about with a spouse or loved one?
  2. What did you do individually and as a couple to prepare yourselves for marriage? What would you do different today if you could have a “do over?”
  3. What do you typically tend towards: working on me or changing you? Explain?
  4. In Colossians 3:12-13, Paul instructs the church to clothe themselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Which of these virtues do you need to practice putting on more? Why?
  5. Marriage can show you areas where you can grow and allow Jesus to change you. What one thing can you start doing to put on the virtue you identified above in your life and marriage? Explain.
  6. Marriage is not a magnifying glass to zoom in on your spouse’s faults but a mirror that gives you the opportunity to change yourself. What one fault in your spouse have been zooming in on? Will you try this week to see this as a mirror moment to show love, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience?
