Taking a Deeper Dive

QUESTION 1 – The final weeks leading up to Christmas are filled with gift wish lists and some last-minute shopping! Share with the group the best Christmas gift you ever received and what it meant to you.

QUESTION 2 – In verse 51, Mary praises God for His strength. She is most likely thinking back to when God’s people were delivered from Egypt. Has there been a time in your life when God has delivered you in a mighty way? Share with the group.

QUESTION 3 – In verse 52, Mary praises God by saying he “has lifted up the humble”. Much of the Christian life is connected to humility and a willingness to submit to God’s desires before our own. On a scale of 1-10 (where 10 is very humble and submissive to God) how would you rank yourself and why? What can you do to grow in humility and submission?

QUESTION 4 – In verse 53, Mary paints a beautiful picture of God by declaring that “He has filled the hungry with good things”. As Mary knows, God provides manna for the Israelites in the desert journeys. But God also fills us spiritually and emotionally. Have you ever felt emotionally and spiritually hungry for God? Describe the feeling.

QUESTION 5 – After the year we have had, this Christmas season is different than any we have had before. Being completely honest with yourself and with God, do you trust God to provide for you at the end of this year?

QUESTION 6 – Matthew 5:6 says “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.” In what ways have do you hunger and thirst for righteousness? Who in your life might God be calling you to fill their physical and/or spiritual hunger and thirst this Christmas?
