Taking a Deeper Dive:

Reflect on and answer the following questions for personal study and/or for discussion with your life group or at home with your family.

Question 1

Is there a time when you faced an overwhelmingly difficult situation totally beyond your control? How did you respond?

Question 2

Is prayer your go to when you face difficult situations or do you pray after trying something else first?

Question 3

In 1 Kings 17:17-24 we read that Elijah prayed honestly. When you pray, how direct are you with God about what you want and how you feel? Do you withhold some things, or do you lay it all out?

Question 4

Elijah prayed persistently. Is there a situation or circumstance you wish you would have persisted in prayer instead of quitting too soon?

Question 5

Have you ever stopped praying because you felt like God was not listening or God was taking too long to answer? Did it affect what you believed or how you felt about God? Has your perspective changed over time?

Question 6

Elijah prayed a bold expectant prayer. He did not hedge his prayers, hold back or give God an out. When have you found yourself hedging, holding back or giving God an out? Why?

Question 7

How do prayers change when you truly believe God is the King of the Universe and the creator and sustainer of life?

Question 8

Is there something right now you sense God calling you to pray about honestly, persistently and expectantly?
