Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be.

 [/learn_more][learn_more caption=”December 2: Luke 1:30″]

But the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God.

[/learn_more][learn_more caption=”December 3: Luke 1:31″]

You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus.

[/learn_more][learn_more caption=”December 4: Luke 1:32-33″]

He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over Jacob’s descendants forever; his kingdom will never end.”

[/learn_more][learn_more caption=”December 5: Luke 1:34-38″]

“How will this be,” Mary asked the angel, “since I am a virgin?” The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God. Even Elizabeth your relative is going to have a child in her old age, and she who was said to be unable to conceive is in her sixth month. For no word from God will ever fail.” “I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered. “May your word to me be fulfilled.” Then the angel left her.

[/learn_more][learn_more caption=”December 6: Luke 1:46-48″]

And Mary said: “My soul glorifies the Lord and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for he has been mindful of the humble state of his servant. From now on all generations will call me blessed…

[/learn_more][learn_more caption=”December 7: Isaiah 9:2-3″]

The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of deep darkness a light has dawned. You have enlarged the nation and increased their joy; they rejoice before you as people rejoice at the harvest, as warriors rejoice when dividing the plunder.

[/learn_more][learn_more caption=”December 8: Isaiah 9:4-5″]

For as in the day of Midian’s defeat, you have shattered the yoke that burdens them, the bar across their shoulders, the rod of their oppressor. Every warrior’s boot used in battle and every garment rolled in blood will be destined for burning, will be fuel for the fire.

[/learn_more][learn_more caption=”December 9: Isaiah 9:6″]

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

[/learn_more][learn_more caption=”December 10: Isaiah 9:7″]

Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the Lord Almighty will accomplish this.

[/learn_more][learn_more caption=”December 11: Luke 1:49″]

For the Mighty One has done great things for me—holy is his name.

[/learn_more][learn_more caption=”December 12: Luke 1:50″]

His mercy extends to those who fear him, from generation to generation.

[/learn_more][learn_more caption=”December 13: Isaiah 2:2-5″]

In the last days the mountain of the Lord’s temple will be established as the highest of the mountains; it will be exalted above the hills, and all nations will stream to it. Many peoples will come and say, “Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the temple of the God of Jacob. He will teach us his ways, so that we may walk in his paths.” The law will go out from Zion, the word of the Lord from Jerusalem. He will judge between the nations and will settle disputes for many peoples. They will beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation will not take up sword against nation, nor will they train for war anymore. Come, descendants of Jacob, let us walk in the light of the Lord.

[/learn_more][learn_more caption=”December 14: Isaiah 11:1-3a”]

A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse; from his roots a Branch will bear fruit. The Spirit of the Lord will rest on him—the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding, the Spirit of counsel and of might, the Spirit of the knowledge and fear of the Lord—and he will delight in the fear of the Lord.

[/learn_more][learn_more caption=”December 15: Isaiah 11:3b-5″]

He will not judge by what he sees with his eyes, or decide by what he hears with his ears; but with righteousness he will judge the needy, with justice he will give decisions for the poor of the earth. He will strike the earth with the rod of his mouth; with the breath of his lips he will slay the wicked. Righteousness will be his belt and faithfulness the sash around his waist.

 [/learn_more][learn_more caption=”December 16: Isaiah 11:6-7″]

The wolf will live with the lamb, the leopard will lie down with the goat, the calf and the lion and the yearling together; and a little child will lead them. The cow will feed with the bear, their young will lie down together, and the lion will eat straw like the ox.

[/learn_more][learn_more caption=”December 17: Isaiah 11:8-9″]

The infant will play near the cobra’s den, and the young child will put its hand into the viper’s nest. They will neither harm nor destroy on all my holy mountain, for the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the Lord as the waters cover the sea.

[/learn_more][learn_more caption=”December 18: Luke 1:51″]

He has performed mighty deeds with his arm; he has scattered those who are proud in their inmost thoughts.

[/learn_more][learn_more caption=”December 19: Luke 1:52-53″]

He has brought down rulers from their thrones but has lifted up the humble. He has filled the hungry with good things but has sent the rich away empty.

[/learn_more][learn_more caption=”December 20: Zechariah 8:1-3″]

The word of the Lord Almighty came to me. This is what the Lord Almighty says: “I am very jealous for Zion; I am burning with jealousy for her.” This is what the Lord says: “I will return to Zion and dwell in Jerusalem. Then Jerusalem will be called the Faithful City, and the mountain of the Lord Almighty will be called the Holy Mountain.”

[/learn_more][learn_more caption=”December 21: Luke 2:1-3″]

In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world.(This was the first census that took place while Quirinius was governor of Syria.) And everyone went to their own town to register.

[/learn_more][learn_more caption=”December 22: Luke 2:4-7″]

So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born,  and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them.

[/learn_more][learn_more caption=”December 23: Luke 2:8-14″]

And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.” Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”

[/learn_more][learn_more caption=”December 24: Luke 2:16-20″]

So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told.

[/learn_more][learn_more caption=”December 25: Luke 2:21″]

On the eighth day, when it was time to circumcise the child, he was named Jesus, the name the angel had given him before he was conceived.

[/learn_more][learn_more caption=”December 26: Psalm 96:1-3″]

Sing to the Lord a new song; sing to the Lord, all the earth. Sing to the Lord, praise his name; proclaim his salvation day after day. Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous deeds among all peoples.

[/learn_more][learn_more caption=”December 27: Psalm 96:4-6″]

For great is the Lord and most worthy of praise; he is to be feared above all gods. For all the gods of the nations are idols, but the Lord made the heavens. Splendor and majesty are before him; strength and glory are in his sanctuary.

[/learn_more][learn_more caption=”December 28: Psalm 96:7-8″]

Ascribe to the Lord, all you families of nations, ascribe to the Lord glory and strength. Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name; bring an offering and come into his courts.

[/learn_more][learn_more caption=”December 29: Psalm 96:9-10″]

Worship the Lord in the splendor of his holiness; tremble before him, all the earth. Say among the nations, “The Lord reigns.” The world is firmly established, it cannot be moved; he will judge the peoples with equity.

[/learn_more][learn_more caption=”December 30: Psalm 96:11-12″]

Let the heavens rejoice, let the earth be glad; let the sea resound, and all that is in it. Let the fields be jubilant, and everything in them; let all the trees of the forest sing for joy.

[/learn_more][learn_more caption=”December 31: Psalm 96:13″]

Let all creation rejoice before the Lord, for he comes, he comes to judge the earth. He will judge the world in righteousness and the peoples in his faithfulness.’”[/learn_more]
