Deeper Dive:

QUESTION 1 – Think about a time when you felt guilt or shame. Howdid it affect you or your relationships? Share with the group.

QUESTION 2 – There are two types of guilt: healthy guilt (that waswrong) and toxic guilt (I am a failure). Which of these do you tend towards? Share some examples.

QUESTION 3 – Do you find it easier to forgive others than to forgiveyourself when you’ve messed up? Why do you think that is? 

QUESTION 4 – In Romans 8:1-2, Paul writes that there is nocondemnation for those who are in Christ. What does it mean to you that God does not condemn you for the things you condemn yourself for? How does it change the way you think about your failures? 

QUESTION 5 – When faced with shame and condemnation, we havethe choice to condemn ourselves or look up for the Holy Spirit to remind us of who we are and help us forgive ourselves. What can you do this week to turn moments of self-condemnation into opportunities to turn to God in gratitude for His forgiveness, and to help you forgive yourself?

QUESTION 6 – 2 Corinthians 5:17 tells us that we are new in Christ,not perfect. Embracing our imperfections helps us live free in the grace God has given us. What steps could you take this week to let go of the old and accept the new you who is being made new in Christ?

PRAYER – Forgiving yourself can be hard. Pray that you find thestrength to let go of guilt and condemnation and find freedom in the knowledge that God does not condemn you.
