He’s Calling Me – Baptism Stories

This coming weekend is baptism weekend! Check out this post from Cathy Dreyer, Ridge Point Care Pastor, on the significance of baptism and why we celebrate when people take this next step in their spiritual journey. Then check out the podcast from Kevin Pike, Sr Pastor, and Josh Zoerhof, Teaching Pastor.

“I’m getting baptized today to show you, lost sister/brother or son/daughter that you can be found—I’m here in proof that my parents’ prayers were answered. I’m here to remind you that there is no happiness outside of God that is ever worth taking the easy way out of the wilderness. I’m here to remind you of the importance of obedience. If it wasn’t for others fearless obedience, I wouldn’t be here today. “   – Martha

We are preparing to celebrate baptism together this coming weekend, February 25 and 26 at our churches. So what is baptism, and why is it something worth celebrating?  We believe that baptism is a symbol that serves to remind us of God’s promises to forgive our sins, adopt us into the Body of Christ (the Church), send the Holy Spirit daily to renew and cleanse us, and to resurrect us to eternal life. If you have accepted Jesus as your Savior and Lord, these promises are your reality, not because of anything you’ve done, but through grace alone. And that good news is worth sharing and celebrating with others!

“…I went to winter camp, where I was truly asked if I cared more about this short-lived world or eternal life with my Lord and Savior. And that’s when I decided I needed to make the right choice.  Since I have made the choice to be baptized and to change my lifestyle, I have sought to find happiness and joy in everything I do. Because whenever I see anything, all I can see is God’s creation and everlasting forgiveness.”    – Kendyll

We are not saved through baptism; rather baptism is an outward expression of our decision to surrender our life to God. We do not need to clean up our life or have it all together before we can be baptized. We are simply declaring publicly that we choose to trust God each day, through the highs and lows.

“God would not let the idea of getting baptized go out of my mind. I finally decided that he’s calling me. That’s why I’m getting raised to life today.”   – Macy

Have you made this declaration? If not, what are you waiting for?

And if you have already taken the step of being baptized, come and support those who are taking the plunge this weekend. Cheer them on, encourage them, and pray for them. These individuals are overcoming their fears and insecurities and taking a bold next step of obedience in their spiritual journey. That is something to celebrate!
