HI GOD – Week 2 (Repent)

Hi God…

Learning to Pray

Week 2: Repent

Text: Matthew 6:12

Message Guide:

  • Admit you’re on the wrong path
  • Turn back to the right path
  • Forgive others who have strayed

Deeper Dive:

Question 1 – Do you remember a time where you needed to “repent” or make a confession of a wrongdoing or mistake you made? How did it go?

Question 2 – When we sin, our first reaction is to hide. But our second reaction is to avoid responsibility. Would you say this is true of you? How does this affect the way you pray?

Question 3 – What one thing stands out to you from the Bible passages above and this weekend’s teaching? Why?

Question 4 – What in this week’s reading from Draw the Circle did you find most impactful and relevant to our discussion on prayer? Why?

Question 5 – Batterson notes that the primary purpose of prayer is not to change our circumstance; the primary purpose of prayer is to change us. Do you tend to use prayer to change your circumstances or to change you?

Question 6 – According to Batterson, God sometimes delivers us from our problems; other times God delivers us through our problems. What is one situation in your life where you saw God change you through it rather than simply make the problem go away? How did it impact your relationship with God?

Question 7 – We read earlier this week that the people of Israel needed to “consecrate” themselves before they entered the promised land, that is, to ceremonially cleanse themselves in order to be used by God for His purposes. Today, we consecrate ourselves when we acknowledge and repent of our sins. What steps can you take to practice regular repentance this week?

End in Prayer: Allow a few minutes for each group participant to silently pray, confessing sins and asking for forgiveness and renewal.
