Meet Derek

Hi Fearless Families!

I thrilled to host our weekend worship gatherings this week alongside my friend and colleague, Derek Laird!  Derek is now a few months into his role as Ridge Point’s Middle School Pastor, and is fitting in beautifully with our staff and students!

Derek brings years of passion and experience to student ministry as an educator, ministry leader, and now, parent! Born and raised here on Holland’s south side, Derek and his beautiful family (Sarah, married nearly 5 years, Joselyn (2), and Jackson (4mo) are jumping into the Ridge Point community with both feet. Along with caring for Tribe students and their neighbors, the Laird family enjoys trips to the zoo, Outdoor Discovery Center, and the all to elusive…nap time.

Here is a quick quote from Derek:

“My main goal is to partner with parents because raising kids for Christ in a world that is trying to pull them in the other direction is tough.  Our teachings are going to focus on real-life issues that our kids face every day and biblical wisdom in response.  I cannot speak about Tribe’s vision without giving a shout out to our amazing leaders!  These men and women do an incredible job connecting with our students as well as being Godly role models for them.  If you don’t know your student’s leader, make it a point to connect with them because they are great.  It is an honor to work alongside both parents and leaders as we are equipping our kids to live out the life of a fearless follower in our city, state, country and our world.”    -Derek Laird

I could not be more excited to have Derek on the Family Ministry Team! Please take a moment to introduce yourself to him and Sarah as you see them around Ridge Point and please pray for the our student ministries (Tribe and Magis) as Derek settles in and we complete the search for a new High School Pastor.  I am thrilled about what God is going to do through our new staff, leaders, and students in the coming months and years!

Grace and Peace,

Tim Nelson

Family Life Pastor
