Real Issues, Real People and a Real God: Conversations on Immigration

Hey there Fellow Fearless Followers!

What a great weekend of learning and leaning into the conversation of immigration and the Scriptures. It’s so good to know that we can always trust God’s word to help us navigate the real issues in our society and culture. Our 35min conversation probably left many more questions than answers. As you continue to engage in conversations about immigration and cultural/ethnic diversity, here are a few resources to read, listen to and be a part of.

Speakers, Conferences, Blogs and Podcasts:
The 2019 Summit on Race and Inclusion is an excellent event to attend to grow in the knowledge and understanding of racial, cultural and ethnic diversity. The summit will be held on June 11 at Hope College.

The Migration Policy Institute is a nonpartisan institute that seeks to improve immigration and integration policies through authoritative research and analysis, opportunities for learning and dialogue, and the development of new ideas to address complex policy questions.

The George W. Bush Presidential Center is a great resource for accurate facts, statistics and information on immigration in the country.

The Evangelical Statement of Principles for Immigration Reform:
Our national immigration laws have created a moral, economic and political crisis in America. Initiatives to remedy this crisis have led to polarization and name calling in which opponents have misrepresented each other’s positions as open borders and amnesty versus deportations of millions. This false choice has led to an unacceptable political stalemate at the federal level at a tragic human cost. We urge our nation’s leaders to work together with the American people to pass immigration reform that embodies these key principles and that will make our nation proud. As evangelical Christian leaders, we call for a bipartisan solution on immigration that:

  • Respects the God-given dignity of every person
  • Protects the unity of the immediate family
  • Respects the rule of law
  • Guarantees secure national borders
  • Ensures fairness to taxpayers
  • Establishes a path toward legal status and/or citizenship for those who qualify and who wish to become permanent residents
