A Glimmer of Hope: Act 1

Looking for Hope

BIG IDEA: THERE IS ALWAYS HOPE – WE JUST HAVE TO LOOK FOR IT

1. Bitterness blinds.

2. Look to God’s goodness.

3. Be surprised by hope.

GOING DEEPER

1. Naomi losing her husband and sons meant she would have no income and no future in Moab or Israel. Have you ever gone through a difficult life season in which there was little hope? Can you identify with Naomi or Ruth in any way?

2. The story of Ruth occurs before the days of the Kings. At that time Moabites were hated enemies of Israel. With that in mind, would you expect a Moabite woman to be the hero of the story? Why or why not?

3. Ruth’s statement to Naomi in 1:16-18 is similar to the covenant God makes with His people in Exodus 6:6-8. How does Ruth’s statement show us God’s faithful love to Naomi and us?

4. Have you ever found Hope through the love and/or encouragement of an unexpected interaction?
