Adventure is Out There

You’d think that after living in Holland for my whole life, I would know more local fun things to do for my family . . . guess again! I tend to get stuck proposing the same hiking spots, parks, or events that we’ve done for a while. You know it’s bad when you bring up what you think will be a ‘fun activity’ and the kids say, “Not again!”

So for all the moms, dads, grandparents, extended family, and friends out there who are like me, what do we do?! Are we doomed to be the ‘boring’ adults in these kids’ lives forever!? We can be . . . or we can be intentional in our relationship with these kids and do a little research.

I’ve found a great group called GR Kids that has complied a ton of fun things to do with kids in West Michigan. I follow them on Instagram, and every once in a while, I see a cool spot I’ve never seen before. My kids like rock hunting, and we traveled to a ‘local’ beach for the afternoon and had a blast at this new-to-us spot.

Here’s the catch. You can read this blog and say, “Hey, that’s a great idea,” and do nothing with it, or you can take a risk, try something new, and maybe, just maybe, spend time with your family/friends on a new adventure you’ll all remember.

And remember, to borrow the words from Charles F. Muntz, “Adventure is out there!”
