Following Jesus Study Groups Kickoff

Our study of the life of Jesus is off to a great start! Check out this post from Karen VanHaitsma, Groups Coordinator, celebrating the kickoff of the study groups at the Fearless Family of Churches.

Last week, we launched our church-wide study and discussion groups for our current series JESUS: Following Him then. Following Him now.

The study is following the life of Jesus and will conclude on Easter when we celebrate His resurrection!  We’ve done church-wide studies before, but this one feels different—there is a vibrancy and movement being felt all around us. The difference, I believe, is that this study has one goal and that is for people to know Jesus more.  The daily reading is from the Gospels. The discussions in the study groups are centered around Jesus.

As I walked around the Ridge Point building on the first night of the discussion groups, every single part of our building was filled with people who were laughing together and building community centered around discussing Jesus. Most of the groups continued their discussions well past the ending time.  In talking with my co-workers at Third Coast and Cultivate, they also felt that same vibrancy and excitement during the launch of their discussion groups.

We’ve had a great response from people in all three of our churches for this study, not just from people taking part in a discussion group, but also from those who are doing the study on their own.  Almost 2,000 people are going through this at the same time—and every day someone stops by a church to pick up a copy of the study to “give to a friend, to a co-worker, a neighbor etc….”  I talked to a man on Sunday who picked up 8 copies of this study to give to his employees.  People are doing what Jesus asks of His followers, and that is to share Him with others.
